He uses the phrases “Devil River,” “Valley of Death,” and “Darwinian Sea.” After I interviewed the XL-10A phytoplankton counter developers concerning their experiences, I was left with an understanding of where such phrases might have come from and the impression that the passion and determination of those involved to contribute to the lives of people around the world are what count—even if no glorious prize awaits at the end. (Yamazaki)I’m in charge of “Strolls Around Kokubunji,” perhaps the most informal column in the entire journal. The column, which introduces favorites of our employees, can be surprisingly revealing. Whether the topic is a place or object, the column tends to be infused with the affections of that particular person. In my interview for each issue, I try to touch on what’s dear and special to my interviewee. The anticipation and nerves before I embark on an interview are definitely part of the appeal of my job.
