7Accelerometers are sensors for detecting vibration. Among its various existing measurement methods, Rion is putting its efforts into the development of piezo-electric accelerometers, which utilize piezoelectric elements. The merit in using piezoelectric elements is that, as well as being compact and lightweight, they are also capable of taking measurements up to high frequencies. In this issue we focus on the history of the development of accelerometers, which began more than half a century ago. We also present an overview of the various types of products available, from which users can choose depending on their purpose.Precision measurement of the vibra-tion of objects—a diverse lineup for different applicationsInterview and article by Atsumi TakebayashiPhoto by Yuki AkabaPIEZOELECTRICACCELEROMETERPart 3HISTORY OF TECHNOLOGYRion’s Technologies Over the Years
