[VM-55] (2015)The VM-55 is a vibration level meter equipped with a color LCD for enhanced on-site usability. Using a program card, the model can simultaneously perform waveform recording and real-time 1/3 octave band analysis of vibra-tions with tri-axial directional sensitivity. It is conforming to JIS C 1510 and can also perform measurements in com-pliance with the Vibration Measurement Manual(Japan only). The dB standard in JIS is 0 dB = 10-5 m/s2, which is different from 0 dB = 10-6 m/s2 in ISO standard.6Noise and vibration pollution emerged as major social issues alongside econom-ic growth in the Showa era. This led to the need for their measurement, and thus the birth of the vibration level meter. This article focuses on the vibration level meter, a product Rion has continued to rene over the years, and looks back at its history, based on the account of a Rion staff member with rst-hand knowl-edge of its development.Getting closer to the human perception of vibrationInterview and article by Reiko IshikawaPhoto by Yuki AkabaVibration Level MetersPart 4HISTORY OF TECHNOLOGYRion’s Technologies Over the Years
