Our company is a locally incorporated company of Nagase & Co., Ltd., a trading firm specializing in chemicals and associated products. We mainly deal with the import and export of chemicals, synthetic resins, electronic materials, and food materials, as well as doing sales and marketing in the country. We are based at three locations in Singapore.—a sales office, service center, and food materials laboratory—with 75 employees in total. I manage operations at the service center, with support from two engineers. I’ve always been interested in troubleshooting and repairing things, therefore I find my work in Nagase very enjoyable. Our partnership with Rion goes back to 2000. We served as the distributor and technical service provider for Rion’s particle counters for the semiconductor/hard disk drive and pharmaceutical industries within Singapore and South East Asia. I’ve visited the head office of Rion on more than ten occasions, during which I’ve received training on instrument calibration and troubleshooting. In Singapore, particle counters are mainly used for the cleanliness management of cleanrooms and the management of chemicals used in manufacturing processes by companies based here. They’re also used for quality assurance for pharmaceuticals and other products. Most of our customers are Japanese-affiliated companies. They highly acclaim Rion’s particle counters for their measurement reproducibility and precision in particle counting. They also appreciate our customer support services, especially our sincerity in responding to problems. If I were to give an opinion on efforts for adapting the business based on the local needs here, I would suggest the following: The first is to offer a more compact model. In existing systems, each device has a specific function, which is an advantage when identifying the cause of a malfunction. But there’s also demand for compact all-in-one products. The second is to improve the control systems for communications between the product and the customer’s equipment. Specifically, I’d like to have instruments capable of smooth Wi-Fi-compatible data transmission for inline measurements.During the COVID-19 lockdown, we weren’t allowed to go to our office. That made it difficult to maintain the performance of the work standards and utilities used for our calibration process. The situation is better now in Singapore. I see tourists returning to the streets. I look forward to the day when I see tourists and business people on trips from Japan once again.16Bay area with a view of the iconic Marina Bay Sands, a gigantic hotel and casino in Singapore. The Jurassic Mile, a popular cycling spot near Changi International Airport.Ofce at the service center of Nagase Singapore where Bruce Lim works.Tell us about Nagase Singapore, the partner corporation that has distributed Rion’s particle counters for many years.Bruce LimBorn in Singapore in 1968, he obtained his diploma in electronics and electrical engineering from a local polytechnic.
