They were attending a European distributors meeting, a gathering of distributors from around the world who sell Rion’s sound level meters. The new NL-53 sound level meter was unveiled at the meeting. “We brought the actual instrument to the meeting,” Hagiwara recalls. “They were impressed by its ease of use, how smoothly it functioned, and that it was still only in the pre-launch phase. One person even urged us to immediately launch it as-is. I’ve never forgotten that.”Hagiwara believes one of the reasons for the seamless functionality was the steady, thorough verification by Ezoe and his colleagues in the project team. Kazama also acknowledges Ezoe’s con-tributions.“Ezoe takes an active, not passive, approach to verification. As a result, he’s able to identify various issues. At every verification point, he has a solid basis for his judgments.”In explaining the new product and answe ring questions from so many attendees at the distributors meeting, Kazama felt proud to have been involved in completing the development of this new product.“Sound level meters are Rion’s flag-ship product,” says Kazama. “As the project leader, I was very proud to have completed my job.”Eight months later, the day came for the global launch of Rion’s NL-53 series of sound level meters. Ezoe, who started as a member of the verification team, has now advanced to the position of chief designer of new programs.“Each user has specific requirements for sound level meters,” says Ezoe. “The NL-53 has the flexibility to meet each and every requirement. That’s what I love about it.”One year after its release, we asked Hagiwara what users thought of the NL-53.“Users are impressed with the visibili-ty and operability, significantly improved in the NL-53. They also praised its intu-itive ease of use, which allows anyone to pick it up and start working without even looking at the manual. In addition, system designers—not just in Japan, but in many other countries—have given high marks to the NL-53, noting its remarkable ease of integration into their measurement systems. That’s exactly what we wanted.”Hagiwara, who has long worked as the frontman in product sales, gave his thoughts on the NL-53.“This product, born from a combina-tion of domestic and international needs, will continue to evolve. Going forward, holding the principle of problem-solving in our hearts, we’ll continue to develop high quality products and help create comfortable living environments with cutting edge technologies.”The InternetRouterLANMeasurement site e.g., noise measurement of wind turbinesSmartphoneComputerOfficeHUBComputerMonitoring statione.g., officeLocal area networkHUBLANMeasurement sitee.g., monitoring for factoryequipment and machinery
