Class 2 Sound Level Meter NL-43 Class 2 Sound Level Meter NL-28What are the differences from the higher-end NL-43?The NL-43 features an SD card port. You can also perform remote monitoring using the Auto Store function or via the LAN port. The NL-43 can be upgraded to install octave analysis and waveform recording functions. In more detail, the NL-43’s microphone can be extended by connecting a cable, calculations cover a wider range of parameters, and the NL-43 is the only model that performs certain noise measurement evaluations as specified in the Noise Regulation Act.On the other hand, as I’ve mentioned earlier, the NL-28 is a model designed based on the concept of "necessary and suffi-cient", equipped with basic measuring functions that meet the occupational health and school environmental health require-ments.What advantages does this product offer over products from other companies?I’m delighted to report that the NL-28 has been chosen by customers based on Rion’s brand power and reliability. I also have to give credit to the dealers who distribute our sound level meters. Their cooperation has played a vital part in winning cus-tomers amidst fierce price competition with products by other manufacturers. The major advantage the NL-28 provides is its intuitive user interface. Users can pick it up and use it without reading the manual. We have rarely received inquiries from our customers about how to use this product, which leads me to believe this is a strong selling point. People performing workplace environmen-tal measurements typically have to measure many environmen-tal parameters apart from just noise—for example, vibration, CO2 levels, and odors. In many cases, they’re not noise measure-ment specialists. For all these reasons, we’ve kept the functions available on the NL-28 simple to make it easy for anyone to use. I encourage anyone who’s just starting out in noise measurement to pick up the NL-28 and experience how easy it is to use. If users need to make advanced measurements, then they can consid-er higher-end models like the NL-43, which offers enhanced optional capabilities. Can you describe the NL-28?There are several types of sound level meters. Even within the category of Class 2 sound level meters, we’ve streamlined the functions available on this one to make it more affordable. So it’s the most popular model. Its key features include ease of use, compact dimensions for easy portability, and an organic EL display screen for better visibility. Another major feature is automatic calibration using the NC-75 sound calibrator. Can you explain what the automatic calibration does?To calibrate sound, you attach a device to the microphone called the sound calibrator that generates a reference sound pres-sure level of 94 dB, as specified by the Japanese Measurement Act and JIS. The sound level meter is judged to be functioning properly if it displays the correct value when evaluating this sound. If the results are off, the automatic calibration function enables an easy and automatic adjustment. It’s the first time a Japanese manufacturer has offered a model with this feature. (Patent pending.)Who are the main target users for this product? This model is intended for measurements of general noise associated with occupational health, school environmental health, and other ordinary environments. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has issued its Guidelines for the Pre-vention of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss to protect the hearing of workers in noisy workplaces. This product is suited for mea-surements required under the guidelines. Likewise, for school environments, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Sci-ence and Technology has established the School Environmental Health Standards, which require noise level measurements in classrooms. We’ve developed this product to target these mar-kets.How have users responded?Users are impressed by its affordability, compactness, and light weight. Compared to its predecessor, the NL-27, this model features a slimmer and more refined design. Our goal was to cre-ate a product with high-quality design worthy of a product from a top brand while keeping it within a reasonable price range. The previous NL-27 modelThe NL-28 is a successor model with a more refined design than the NL-27, the former flagship of ultra-compact, lightweight sound level meters. Weighing just 160 grams, it can be operated with one hand. An organic EL display allows for clear and easy viewing even in dark environments. It’s capable of measuring sound levels, time-averaged levels, and peak levels; measurement data can be saved to the unit’s internal memory. It can run for up to 9 hours on two AA alkaline batteries. It’s the ideal model for measuring noise at the workplace, at schools, and occupational noise in factory environments. This Class 2 sound level meter model meets the latest standards and supports environmental noise measurement methods. It also comes with optional software to enable octave and 1/3 octave analysis, FFT analysis, and waveform recording. Equipped with functions for LAN com-munication, the model offers high expandability and operational flexibility, including controls for the sound level meter and the capacity to acquire measurement data using a web browser installed on a PC or smartphone. It’s ideal for noise measurements of roads, railways, and oth-er infrastructure, for on-site noise measurements at factories, and for remote noise monitoring.Visit our website for more information on this product.11
