Users can configure up to 10 channels to measure particles of different diameter ranges, and to display the results simultaneously. The controller allows printing of the results using the built-in printer and automatically saves data to a CF card to satisfy traceability requirements. Multi-point monitoring and long-term data management are possible if the KE-40B1 is connected to a computer. The KS-20F is a liquid-borne particle counter capable of performing high-precision measure-ment of particles as small as 0.02 µm. Its sap-phire cell allows it to handle hydrofluoric acid and other corrosive chemicals. The light-scat-tering laser optical system allows measurement of particles of diameters from 0.02 to 0.08 µm across 2 to 7 selectable ranges. Used mainly for quality control in semiconductor manufacturing and by materials and chemical manufacturers, the KS-20F contributes to improved yields and serves as the de facto standard for pure water management.unit must be controlled with extreme precision. While certain manufacturers offer specialized temperature control units for their systems, the KS-20F needs no optional temperature control unit as long as it is used within the specified temperature and humidity ranges. Can it measure any kind of liquid?Various chemicals are used in semiconductor manufacturing processes, including acids, alkalis, and organic solvents. There-fore, we adopted materials like PFA and sapphire for the wetted parts to enable measurement of a broad range of chemicals. How do you measure the liquids? There are two measurement methods: in-line measurement and oine measurement. For the in-line measurement in semi-conductor manufacturing, there’s a line through which the solu-tion for cleaning is supplied. In-line measurement is performed by branching a line off the main solution supply line to a sensor, allowing the solution to flow continuously through the sensor. The oine measurement method involves taking samples of the solution to be tested in bottles; the sample solutions are drawn from the bottles into the system for measurements. This method is effective when it is not possible to connect the device directly to the supply line. It’s also used by manufacturers of chemical solutions to certify the purity of their products in packaged containers. As a sales representative, what do you see as the strengths of the Rion brand?I’d have to say our strength lies in the trust we’ve earned from our customers, which we’ve built up through our commitment to small-volume, high-sensitivity particle detection in liquids and to the stability and compatibility of our products. As a result, our products secured a significant market share both in Japan and abroad. We’ve also established a system of authorized distributors globally to provide comprehensive support for our customers. In what industries would the KS-20F be most commonly used? What kind of product is the KS-20F?Designed to measure particles suspended in liquids, this flagship particle counter in the series succeeds the KS-19F, which was released in 2014. Compared to the KS-19F, which can detect particles down to 0.03 µm, the KS-20F measures even finer par-ticles down to 0.02 µm.The KS-20F is most widely used in the semiconductor indus-try, which uses enormous volumes of solutions and purified water in its manufacturing processes. It is used to control the particulate contamination in these liquids. Any foreign matter suspended in such liquids can negatively affect the semiconduc-tor circuitry, resulting in defects and reducing production yield. As semiconductors are becoming increasingly miniaturized, the size of the foreign matter (i.e., particles) subject to control also becomes ever more minute. Therefore, we expect continu-ing growth in demand for products capable of measuring even smaller particles than those detected by the KS-20F.What feedback have you received for the KS-20F?The 0.03 µm detection limit had been considered to be the limit of conventional particle detection methods based on light scattering. So we were met with surprise and praise for managing to overcome this theoretical barrier with a commercial product capable of 0.02 µm detection. Other feedback received mentions that being able to visualize particle size ranges (diameters) that were previously undetectable has led to improved yield. What advantages does the KS-20F offer over products from other companies? In the area of liquid-borne particle counting, Rion products offer high counting eciency. This means effective evaluations can be performed using small sample volumes. Since the chemi-cals used in semiconductor manufacturing are expensive, reduc-ing sample volume is critical. Additionally, to measure particles as small as 0.02 µm, the temperature of the particle detection KS-20F Liquid-borne Particle CounterKE-40B1 controllerExample of a measurement system
